Residents Encounter Christ (REC)

REC encourages incarcerated individuals to remember that God’s love and mercy is unending by emphasizing personal commitment and developing a personal relationship with Christ.

PMUNY currently supports REC in four Upstate New York Correctional Facilities: Attica, Auburn, Groveland and Wende. We hope to serve additional facilities in the future.

A REC program is typically a three day spiritual retreat focusing on the following themes:

  • Day 1: “Dying to Self,”
  • Day 2: “Rising with Christ” and
  • Day 3: “Going Forth,” living the Pascal Mystery.

REC focuses on God’s unending love and reconciling mercy.

REC encourages incarcerated individuals to know Christ’s love and peace and to share it with others during and after incarceration.

A typical team consists of 10 to 20 vetted volunteers. On second day visitors from the outside community attend the HOOT.  This is typically the starting point for most REC volunteers. Additionally, countless volunteers from the outside offer prayerful support and sacrifice in the form on palanca.
